Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation Review, Pics and Swatches
Maybelline has been churning out some pretty amazing products lately (the Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss and The Falsies Big Eyes Mascara are my most recent faves), and one of their latest releases had me at “hello”! Here’s the scoop via the Maybelline website on their new Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation, $8.99:
Our first gel stick foundation with an anti-shine core.
Fresh gel foundation blends to a flawless matte finish.
Lightweight powders in the anti-shine core instantly dissolve excess oil.
I love the convenience and coverage of stick foundations, but they tend to be too emollient for oily skin types like mine. So I was excited to try this foundation stick from Maybelline that promised to give a matte finish and absorb shine. Did it work? First, let’s take a look at the swatches.
I picked the foundation up in two of the deepest shades, Cappuccino #340 and Coconut #355.
Cappuccino (bottom) is a deep tan with warm to neutral undertones. Coconut (top) is a warm reddish-brown .
In the photo above you can see how beautiful the finish is on these when blended out. The coverage is medium buildable, but the finish isn’t as matte as it promises. The anti-shine core in the center contains silicones which, I feel, prohibit the oil absorbing capabilities of the foundation. The silicones make the foundation go on incredibly smooth and silky, but causes the finish to be more demi-matte than matte. The wear time of the Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation was less than I had hoped for, as I typically got about 4-5 hours wear time, tops. After wearing it on it’s own for a few days, I set it with powder and primed with my favorite mattifying primer, and the wear time was pretty much the same.
My overall thoughts on the foundation:
If you are in the market for an affordable foundation that gives a beautiful, skin-like finish, Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation is certainly worth a try. Normal to dry skin types will likely love it, oilier skin types may not get much oil absorbing action. If you’re oily and don’t look to your foundation for oil absorption, you’ll likely be fine with this. As for me, I probably won’t use this for my everyday foundation, but I definitely plan to keep it in my makeup bag. It’s small in size and incredibly compact, making it perfect to tote around for touch-ups for after work events or when I need to make my face up in a hurry (hey, you never know who you might run into!).
Have you tried this Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation stick? What foundation are you wearing these days?
