What I’m Wearing: Winter Fragrance Edition

I have a bit of an obsessive personality. I can admit it. Once I have something in my head I can’t get over it until I feel it’s been fully resolved. For the past few months, I’ve been obsessed with fragrance, which happens every so often. I decide that I must revamp my fragrance wardrobe and don’t rest until I do.

*sidebar* I suddenly recall the old saying that there are two things a woman should never buy herself – jewelry and perfume. Have you ever heard this? Clearly, this is no longer the case for women of my generation, because I’ve been spending my own money on both for as long as I can recall, LOL. *end sidebar*

Lucky for me, this last round of fragrance hunting took place during the change of seasons. Fall and winter are when the dark and sultry fragrances hit the market, and these sexy scents just so happen to be my favorite. Seriously. I’ve never found a summer, hot weather-friendly scent I like, and often end up going without (if you have a recommendation, let me know!). Y’all can keep those citrus, floral and fresh scents. I like my mine with notes of rich, creamy woods and musk. When it comes to fragrance, this is my time of year! Without further ado, let’s take a look at my most recent winter fragrance acquisitions.

vs-dark-orchid

For a while I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep Victoria’s Secret Seduction Dark Orchid, $49. Don’t get me wrong, Vickie’s latest fragrance release smells amazing. It’s just that it has a hint of sweetness to it that I don’t usually go for. Dark Orchid contains a blend of midnight orchid, blood orange, crushed plum, cashmere woods, musk and oud wood.

The fruit notes were totally throwing me off at first, but now I really like it. I think it makes it more wearable for daytime, and makes it an option for those who don’t usually wear woody scents. It’s completely yummy smelling and you should definitely give it a sniff on your next trip to Victoria’s Secret.

clean-skin

I was obsessed with CLEAN fragrances in college. I don’t know why. I just loved how their scents had a barely there, “I just so happen to smell this amazing naturally” quality to them. It blew my young mind, lol. I never owned any of them (hey, I was a broke college student!) but I recently picked up CLEAN Skin, $38 fragrance. Meant to capture “the delicate scent of bare skin” CLEAN Skin has notes of dewy petals, amber wood, vanilla, warm musk, fresh air accord and aquatic notes.

It’s as if CLEAN took one of their usual fresh scents and spiked it with sexiness. It’s a bit creamy and musky, but still manages to be light and fresh. It’s crazy, man. Consider my mind blown again!

tom-ford-black-orchid-perfume

I’m really kicking myself over this last one. I bought Tom Ford Black Orchid, $70 during the Sephora VIB sale, but I returned it. *shakes fists at the sky* What a foolish mistake that was, but let’s get into why it’s so amazing. Black Orchid has been out for five or six years now, but I don’t think I’ve smelled many fragrances like it. It’s dark, sultry and a statement fragrance, for sure.

Black Orchid includes notes of black truffle, ylang ylang, bergamont, spicy floral and fruit accords, lotus wood, patchouli, incense, vetiver, vanilla, balsam and sandalwood. The scent is quite striking upon first mist, but I found it to change quite dramatically as it dried down. This is why I returned it. It took a good 45 minutes before it got to the scent that I loved, and I couldn’t be bothered to wait that long, lol.

Have you tried any of these scents? What fragrance(s) are you wearing these days? Which are on your wish list?

I have not tried any on the above mentioned fragrances but the VS interest me a bit. I love Paco Rabanne Lady Million it a very sensual fragrance which last all day. Happy Holidays!

You know, I think I got a sample of Lady Million when it first came out. It did smell nice! I’m glad to hear it lasts all day, so many fragrances don’t these days.
