I had no plans to purchase anything from MAC’s Marilyn Monroe collection. Not because I don’t dig Marilyn (I do, actually), but because I wasn’t all that pressed after seeing the preliminary press images. But after I began to see some real-life images of the amazing red lip colors in the collection, I quickly changed my tune. I am, after all, a sucker for a fabulous red lip. I decided that I pretty much had to have Charmed I’m Sure, which is described as a dark, true red, and Deeply Adored, $16.50 each which is described as deep scarlet.
Getting my hands on these, however, wasn’t quite so easy. Practically every MAC store and counter in the country sold out of the collection on the day it was released, so when I tried to find it the next day every Macy’s and Nordstrom in town was sold out. I called the local MAC store, and lucky for me, they’d gotten a second shipment in that morning. I was told that it was especially lucky that I’d called them before they began calling people on the waiting list. So I was able to score both lip colors and a Brow Finisher (I’ll review it in another post). So lets take a look!
I knew before I ever saw it in person that I wanted Deeply Adored, and I was right. It is the perfect deep, brick red for fall. It will look amazing on a range of brown skin tones, and you pretty much need it in your life it you can get your hands on one. Charmed I’m Sure actually surprised me. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but once I put it on, I was sold!
I usually wear blue reds (like MAC’s Ruby Woo), but this warm red really compliments my skin tone better than I would have guessed. It strikes me as being a less severe red than others in my collection (well, as much as a bright azz matte red can be, lol). I even wore it during the day this weekend, instead of reserving it for evening. It works!
So, now for the really good news! I managed to get my hands on an extra Charmed I’m Sure, and I’m giving it away to one of my lovely readers! All you need to do is leave a comment below telling me whatever you’d like. How you’d wear this lipstick if you won it, how you get your sexy bombshell on a’la Marilyn Monroe, what you did this weekend, whatevs! You can also like any of my social media accounts for extra entries. The giveaway will end on Sunday, October 22nd at 11:01PM CST. Open to residents of the US only. One winner will be chosen at random. Good luck!
For funsies! A shot of Marilyn front row at Ella Fitzgerald’s (my favorite vocalist EVER) show, on the night she became the first African-American entertainer to perform at the whites-only Mocambo jazz club. What an interesting duo they made!
“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt … she personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.” – Ella Fitzgerald
