Bombshell Review: Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and Setting Brush

Quality makeup brushes are super important to a gorgeous makeup application. Although they are important, you don’t need to rush out and buy the most expensive brushes around. In fact, some of my favorite makeup brushes are the ones I’ve gotten on the cheap. The new Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, $9 and Setting Brush, $8 are perfect examples. They’re low in price, but they certainly don’t skimp on quality!

The Expert Face Brush is meant to blend cream and liquid foundations onto the skin, while the Setting brush is designed for detailed application of powders and highlighters.

While you can use the Expert Face Brush in a swiping motion like a traditional foundation brush, I find that the shape and density of this brush makes it ideal to buff foundation into the skin. I’ve been using it to apply both liquid and cream foundations in a circular buffing motion and the results have been a flawless, airbrush-like finish. Loves it!

I’ve been on a sculpted cheek kick for a while now, but I hadn’t found the perfect tool for applying highlighter to my cheekbones. The Setting Brush is just what I needed! It’s much smaller than any powder or blush brush, and it actually looks like a larger version of an eye shadow blending brush. I’ve been using it to apply powder highlighter to my cheekbones, but Real Techniques says it also works for cream highlighter. At first I tried swirling highlighter on in a circular motion, but sweeping it on works much better and gave me the lit-from-within look I was going for.

I’ve been wanting to try Real Techniques brushes for a while and my first experience with the brand didn’t disappoint! I’ll definitely be adding more of their brushes to my brush arsenal, and I love the instructional videos they make for each brush. If you’re in the market for makeup brushes, Real Techniques has a variety of brushes to fit pretty much any beauty need! You can find them at RealTechniques.com and at stores and Ulta.com.
