Natural Hair Care Review: Uncle Funky’s Daughter Extra Butter
Hey, Bombshells! I’ve decided to be more diligent about sharing the myriad of products I’m trying on my natural hair. I try so many products for natural hair (and many of them are tossed into the “fail” pile) that it can sometimes be difficult to keep them all straight! Seriously, I’ve been a product junkie all my life, but since I went natural last year I’ve become a PJ on a totally different level!
Recently I had the opportunity to try Uncle Funky’s Daughter Extra Butter, $22, a moisturizing shine cream. Though I’ve heard of Uncle Funky’s Daughter, I’d never tried any of their products before now. Here’s what they say about their Extra Butter:
Working at the carwash is the only reason for waxy buildup! Get residue-free stylability with our pro-shine moisturizer. This smooth, whipped butter fortifies curls with natural shea butter & coconut oil and NO PETROLEUM! Great for extremely dry hair!! Elongates curls, detangles and deeply moisturizes to aid in combability. Works great on wet and dry hair. Light, fresh clean citrus scent.
So what did I think of Extra Butter? Well, I first tried Extra Butter as a styling cream for a twist out, which was my least favorite way to use the product. Extra Butter doesn’t possess much hold so my twist out was really fluffy and didn’t give curl/twist definition. Where Extra Butter really excels is as a moisturizer. This cream is full of rich oils and butters that really do a number on dry hair! Although the jar says that Extra Butter can be used for twist outs, I would recommend using it in tandem with a cream or lotion based styling product to add an extra dose of moisture, and prevent the crunchies a lot of products can create. And of course, you can use Extra Butter as a touch-up moisturizer anytime your hair feels parched, without worrying about build-up or greasiness.
Bottom line: Extra Butter may or may not be enough to use as a stand-alone styling product, depending on your hair type. But no matter what, it works great as a hair moisturizer. I’d be curious to try other products from Uncle Funky’s Daughter and I’ll be sure to keep you posted if I do! Have you tried any products from Uncle Funky’s Daughter?
