Beauty Review: Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

One of the beauty biz’s most interesting new product releases has been Clinique’s new Bottom Lash Mascara, $10. For me, the release of this product was right on time. I like to apply a light coat of mascara to the outer corner of my bottom lashes, and I’d become frustrated with using the huge wand on my normal mascara. So the idea of a mascara made just for this purpose sounded perfect! Here’s what Clinique says:

Now bottom lashes get in on the action with a brush engineered for tiny tasks and a formula that resists smears. Pair it with any mascara on top, and watch what happens. A full 90-day supply.

So did it live up to the hype? Well, not exactly. First, this is probably the tiniest tube of mascara you will ever come across. It’s only a few inches long and slightly thicker than a crayon. How Clinique thinks that’ll last 90 days is beyond me, but I won’t be wearing it daily to find out.

While the tiny angled brush was the perfect size for coating wispy bottom lashes, the formula was a total dud. It goes on thick and clumpy, instantly giving lashes a “spider leg” effect. It kinda reminded me of that episode of The Cosby Show when Rudy’s friend Susan’s false eyelash was stuck to her face (skip to 8:19 for the hilarity). I seriously looked a mess. I even tried wiping some of the product off of the wand first, but then it looked like I didn’t use any mascara at all. I couldn’t win!

Sadly, this didn’t work for me and I really wish it had. It would have been a great thing! If you’d like to give it a whirl, Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara can be found on Clinique.com and where ever Clinique products are sold.
