Best in Beauty: 83rd Annual Academy Awards
The Oscars, the biggest show of the awards season, took place tonight and the stars were out in full force! Sadly, there were even fewer stars of color present at this year’s ceremony than there were last year, but the handful in attendance really turned up the glamour. Let’s take a look at which brown Hollywood beauties burned up the red carpet!
Halle Berry gets my vote for best dress of the night. This nude and crystal encrusted Marchesa corset gown was positively stunning! The organza and silk tulle ruffles were ethereal and feminine, and Halle managed to make it look sexy to boot!
Halle’s hair and makeup were equally gorgeous! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Halle rarely strays from her beauty formula, but it always works for her! Her flawless skin, rosy cheeks, pinky nude lip and slightly smoky eye is a look that works on both the red carpet and in real life. Totally wearable! And I’m glad Halle’s back to her signature tousled pixie cut! (*sidenote: Are those diamond drop earrings not to die for?!)
Jennifer Hudson looked stunning as per usual lately. Her skin was beyond gorgeous! I can definitely see some bronzer present here (click here for my faves for brown girls), as well as some bronze and nutmeg colored eyeshadows. A thick swoop of black eyeliner and false eyelashes really make her look pop! I must, though, take issue with Jennifer’s hair. I love the vintage-inspired updo, but we are NOT supposed to be able to tell that she was wearing a lace-front wig through the TV. Not sure just yet who her hair stylist was, but this was a major beauty fail.
JHud’s new body is certainly on point, but this tangerine-colored Versace dress was not my favorite of the gowns she’s worn this awards season. The silhouette was figure-flattering, but the low-cut halter neckline didn’t do her bustline any favors. She really needed something that would lift her busom, rather than squash it.
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey presented at the ceremony in this Zac Posen sparkler. I must admit that this gown isn’t my favorite, but this photo doesn’t really do it justice. It looked better/more flattering to Oprah on TV, in my opinion. Also, I LOVED Lady O’s curls! Her hair always looks super healthy, and Oscar night was no different!
My “homegirl-in-my-mind” Robin Roberts ran things on the red carpet before the show began in this one-shoulder, pale gold gown. Though I wish the dress were longer in length (looks high-water, no?), I still thing Robin looked great!
Though I don’t know if Access Hollywood correspondent Shaun Robinson’s Christiane King gown was quite Oscar material, I do think she looked amazing! Several ladies wore bold, bright colors on the red carpet last night, and Shaun’s cobalt blue gown certainly stood out on the red carpet!celeb
Well, that’s it for our 2011 Oscar round-up! What did you think of the ladies gowns, hair and makeup? Do you agree with my take on their looks? Share in the comments!
