New in Beauty: Cover Girl Queen Collection Lip Color
Hey Bombshells! A while back I posted info about the new, highly anticipated Cover Girl Queen Collection Lip Color. Well, if you’ve been waiting to get your hands on them, I’ve got great news. They’re finally in stores! I received several of the hottest shades in the collection, and I couldn’t wait to share them with you!
First, a little background info. The collection of 24 new shades was created by none other than Pat McGrath, the fashion industry’s go-to makeup guru (read more about her here). Each shade is created to compliment the skin tones of women of color, and is infused with silk moisturizers to keeps lips soft and smooth.
OK, so can we discuss the packaging? How luxe is this?! Cover Girl gets snaps for upgrading the packaging. Usually drugstore makeup comes in cheap plastic packaging you’d hesitate to pull out in front of people. Not the case here! So let’s break down the shades…

From left to right: Mocha Locha, Berry Bling, Nude Attitude, Burgendelicious, See Red and Penelope Pink
Mocha Locha: A shimmery, pinky nude, with a hint of gold sparkle.
Berry Bling: A frosted, hot pink, almost fuscia in color.
Nude Attitude: A true satin nude.
Bergendelicious: A slightly frosted burgandy wine, with hints of pink and gold.
See Red: A creamy orange-red. *This is the color the new ads say Queen Latifah is wearing, but the shade in her pics is a blue red, and this is definitely not blue red.
Penelope Pink: A pale, pastel pink. If you wanted the limited edition Nicki Minaj ‘Pink Friday’ lipstick MAC released last month but couldn’t get it, this is a great alternative. *To make it more wearable, I recommend lining lips with a deep brown lip pencil and blending it into this color.
Here are the same shades swatched in a different type of light.
Now, as for the formula, I detected a definite change from the original Queen lipsticks. These didn’t feel quite as rich and creamy on the lip, and I didn’t care for the new flavor and scent. I tend to be very sensitive to these things, so if you weren’t a user of the originals, or you tend not to notice such small things, you probably won’t be bothered by this formula.
Overall, these lipsticks are impressive, and the shade selection is vast enough for every brown girl to find her ideal shade! So what do you think of these new lip shades? Have you seen them in stores near you, and will you be giving them a try? Share in the comments!
