Brown Bombshell Beauty Guide to Lip Stains
Hey Bombshells!
You’ve probably noticed over the last few months that every brand in the beauty game has released a lip stain in some form or other. And with good reason! Lip stains are a fresh alternative to lipstick or lip gloss, and are great for those times when you can’t touch up your lip color. I was mildly obsessed with lip stains for a while there, and tried practically every brand on the market. Therefore, I consider myself a bit of a lip stain connoisseur! Here are my top 3 picks and reviews of the best lip stains!
Good
Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain, $8.00 in Scarlet Pucker, Nude Kiss and Saucy Plum.
Pros: Inexpensive, widely available, large range of shades.
Cons: Weak color payoff, inconsistent application.
I really wanted to like these Cover Girl Lipstains, but they leave a little too much to be desired, as I found it difficult to get an even color. These are a decent option if you’re on a tight budget, just make sure to dab the color on, as opposed to “drawing” the color on like you would with a marker.
Better
Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain, $9.00 in Crave and Midnight.
Pros: Inexpensive, good color payoff, includes moisturizing lip balm.
Cons: Not many shades, nearly all shades look like the same berry color when on.
I was pleasantly surprised by this Revlon Lipstain, and loved the fact that it comes with a lip balm. I only wish the lip balm could be twisted up and down. I’m super paranoid that I’ll accidentally break it off. Also, I wish there were more shades available, because the ones available look too similar. However, of one of these shades is one you like, go for it. I think you’ll enjoy these!
Best
Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stain, $24 in Enchanted, Amused and Moody, and Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lipstain, $24 in Fiery.
Pros: Great color payoff, comes in both glossy and matte formulas, non-drying.
Cons: Expensive, available only at Sephora.
As far as I’m concerned Tarte has the best lip stains on the market. They shades are on-trend and are very pigmented. Instead of the typical “dry” look of most stains, these have a pretty, glossy look. Even the matte formulas are moisturizing. That being said, I do believe that the price is way too steep for such a small product.
