Oscars 2010: Best in Black Beauty!

Well, this year’s Academy Awards was one for the record books! The show was super entertaining (finally) and stars of color were out in full force! I can’t remember an Oscars with more Black actresses and actors were in attendance and, more importantly, being recognized. But let’s not pretend those golden trophies were what was on our minds. Let’s talk beauty! Not only were women of color in the house, they were giving some SERIOUS fashion and beauty looks! Let’s break down the Best in Beauty Oscars 2010!
For me, Mo’Nique was the woman of the night! I was rooting for her to take home the Oscar and I wasn’t disappointed!
As was her standard all awards season, Mo’Nique looked totally glam. She went for a subtle makeup look and went for drama with her live floral hair accessory. I NEED that lip gloss she’s wearing, so if anyone knows what it is, send me an email!
My other Oscar fave was Gabourey Sidibe. She didn’t take home the Oscar (boo for that!), but she sure strutted her stuff on the red carpet! I loved her jewelery and appliques on her dress.
But when it came to her beauty look, I was once again disappointed. While I loved her side-swept curls (very retro glam), her makeup left much to be desired. I just don’t understand what the problem is. She has look fabulous in every single magazine spread I’ve seen her in, but her makeup has not been on point for her biggest red-carpet moments.I mean, what are her people thinking? You don’t let your star hit the red carpet looking anything less than her best. And this is not Gabby’s best. Period. There are plenty of makeup artists that do beautiful work on deeper skintones, so I really hope one finds their way to Gabby. *sigh*
Paula Patton was absolutely gorgeous, even at 7 months pregnant! This color looks amazing on her, and her makeup was chic and glam. I am LIVING for that coral blush she’s wearing!
“The Princess and the Frog” star Anika Noni Rose was absolutely lovely! Her makeup in shades of pink and mauve was soft and pretty, and her skin is flawless!
Hollywood royalty Zoe Kravitz (daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz and Lisa “Denise Huxtable” Bonet) has really become quite the fashion starlet. Zoe looked young and fresh on the red carpet. She gets two big thumbs up from me!
Oscar night was like a “Precious” class reunion! Mariah Carey was also in the house for the festivities. I would love to see Mariah change up her look a little bit, but I guess she figures the nude look works for her. Like they say, if it ain’t broke…
I love Queen Latifah, but her makeup looks have also been a little stagnant lately. Her look at the Oscars was pretty much the same look she wore at the Super Bowl. She’s always wearing different looks in her Cover Girl ads, so it would be great to see her be a little more adventurous on the red carpet.
Last but not least was Zoe Saldana. She wins the award for Best in Beauty! She was positively stunning at the Oscars and her look was flawless! Her deep purple smokey eye, brightly flushed cheeks and mauve lip was totally glamorous. This is one look I plan to recreate and rock very soon!
On the fashion tip, I was also completely smitten with Zoe’s Givenchy gown! I don’t know if I’m partial to the shades of purple (my signature color!), or the sheer drama and uniqueness of the dress, but it was definitely was a head-turner!So, what did you think of my Oscar beauty roundup? Natural glamour seemed to be the look of the night, no? Did I get it right, or did my picks miss the mark? Share your thoughts of all the Oscar fab!
