Beauty Review: Minx Nails
Minx are all the rage right now in nail design. Celebs from Beyoncè to the Real Housewives of Atlanta have been spotted wearing Minx on their tips. I’ve been waiting for months to get some Minx of my own, and finally had the chance recently. After noticing my nails (which happens a lot with Minx!), people always ask me, “What are Minx?”.
Basically, Minx are films that adhere to the nail when activated with heat. There are no fumes and no drying time, which makes them even more attractive, in my opinion. Minx come in over 150 styles, from metallic to prints and designs.
I’m a fan of the metallic Minx in solid colors, so I went for the Metallic red and decided to punch it up with a little leopard print!
These are what Minx look like before applied to the nail. Your nail tech just peels them off the sheet and sticks them on your nails!
After using a special heat lamp to activate the adhesive, my manicurist then used a crystal nail file to file off the excess Minx.
Voilà! My nails are perfectly Minxed!
Minx should last anywhere from 2-4 weeks, depending on how hard you are on your nails. This was my second set of Minx, and in my experience, the metallic Minx don’t fare as well as the non-metallic ones. The metallic shades are more difficult to go on, and lift rather easily. If I were to get Minx again, I think I would shy away from the metallics.
As far as price, Minx are more expensive than a traditional manicure. Price varies from market to market, but I doubt you would find them for less than $45-50 in any city. If your Minx last, and you don’t mind spending the extra cash, then you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Otherwise, I’d reserve getting them for special occasions.
