Hard Candy Mini Haul and Review

Back during my middle schools days in the mid-90′s, I craved a bottle of Hard Candy Nail Polish. This was during the Clueless era, and a bottle of Hard Candy was as coveted as knee-high socks, mary janes and plaid pleated mini-skirts.

Sadly, a Hard Candy and I were not meant to be. The $18 price tag was way more than my 13 year old self could afford. So imagine my shock and delight to discover that Hard Candy was making a comeback. And at Wal-Mart stores, no less!

The line debuted at Wal-Mart stores and at WalMart.com earlier this month. I found the line at a local Wal-Mart and decided to pick up a few items to try out. I HAD to get a nail polish, of course! I also picked up a few cosmetic items that are new to the brand. So, check out my Hard Candy mini haul!

The first item I’ll review is the Foiled Again Metallic Shadow Stick in Soiree, $6. This eye shadow stick is very creamy and applies easily. Soiree is the most neutral shade in the collection, and is a very buildable shade, allowing you can layer it on for more color.

One word of advice: wear eyeshadow primer (I LIVE for Urban Decay Primer Potion). The creaminess of this shadow can easily make eyelids look greasy. This happened to me, and the color sort of ran off my eyelid. Not a good look. So do prime and powder those eyelids if you decide to give this a try.

I love thick, lush lashes and can’t resist a volumizing mascara. So when I saw this chunky tube of Ginormous Lash Volumizing Mascara in Blackout, $6, I immediately snapped it up! The formula is thin and almost water-like, but the wand is made up of tons of little combs that keep your lashes clump free. This mascara didn’t quite give me va-va-voom lashes, but it did a respectable job. I’ll probably use this as a backup mascara. (P.S. Please excuse my unruly brows!)

Red lipstick has been my beauty obsession for all of 2009, and it looks like 2010 is going to be the same! Glad to score a glamorous red lip color on the cheap, I scooped up a tube of Painted Lady Lipstick in Prowl, $6 (don’t you just love that name!). This is a classic red shade that will look amazing on brown skin. I usually prefer a matte formula when wearing red lips, but this formula is very shiny. If that’s your thing then this is definitely for you. I may try this out in other colors.

Last, but not least, is Just Nails Nail Color in Lava, $5. Lava is a bright, red-orange shade with tiny flecks of glitter. I would never normally wear nail polish with glitter in it, but these flecks are so fine they just give off a aubtle sparkle. There are lots of gorgeous colors in this collection, and I plan to try them out some soon!

So there you have it! My Hard Candy haul in a nutshell. Tell me, do you remember the original Hard Candy from back in the day? Will you be trying anything from the new line?
